South Amherst is a quaint little village of 1581 residents, 683 homes, ten businesses and six churches in Lorain County, Ohio. South Amherst is nestled between the City of Amherst to the North and the City of Oberlin to the South, and is about 30 miles west of the City of Cleveland.
South Amherst is home to the world’s largest sandstone quarry -- Buckeye Quarry.
The Village has a Volunteer Fire Department, a part-time Police Department, South Amherst Community Park which has a walking path and pavilion for your convenience. Evergreen Cemetery is located within the Village and is run by the Village Cemetery Board.
The Village Town Hall is usually open Monday through Friday. We are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. There may be times during work hours that the office is closed while the clerk is out taking care of Village business. If you need to come in outside of the scheduled hours, please call 440-986-2222 to schedule an appointment.

South Amherst is a member of the Firelands Local Schools, consisting of Firelands Elementary School, South Amherst Middle School, and Firelands High School – home of the Falcons.
