Received a citation from the South Amherst Police Department?
You must either:
- pay a fine and waive the citation before the court date
- appear in court on your court date
If you fail to appear your driver’s license may be suspended and a warrant for your arrest even if you are an out of state driver.
If the citation is marked “personal appearance required” at the top, you must appear in court.
Proof of insurance:
If you were not able to provide proof of insurance at the time of the citation and the citation is marked that you have not shown Financial Responsibility Proof, you must provide proof of insurance with your waiver or bring it with you to court. Insurance date must be dated prior to citation.
If you choose to mail in a waiver: sign the back of the Blue Citation, enclose check or money order to:

If you choose to appear in court, the date will be listed in the top left-hand corner of the citation. Court hours are from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

What payments are accepted?
Currently, the Court accepts cash, personal or bank check, money order, online payment, and phone payment with the Clerk. Online & phone payments will have a service fee added. If sending by mail, we recommend not sending cash.
Can I pay online?

Can I set up a Payment Plan?
Please contact the Clerk to customize a payment plan.
What if I am not available for the scheduled Court Date?
Please contact the clerk before the scheduled date & time. The case may be scheduled for the next court date or other agreed upon date depending on compliance with Ohio Laws.
What if I plead “not guilty”?
To plead “not guilty”, you must first appear at South Amherst Mayor’s Court and the case will be transferred to Oberlin Municipal Court. Oberlin Municipal Court will contact you with the court date. Once it is transferred, South Amherst Mayor’s Court does not have control over court dates/times.
