
Once again, the South Amherst community has shown why it’s known as a “Small Town with a Big Heart.”
On the evening of August 26th, residents gathered to commemorate the official dedication of Ward Hill and Miranda Way, in memory of Miranda Ward—a young girl whose life was tragically lost in 2002 while riding her bike on South Lake Street.
At the time, a classmate had suggested renaming the hill behind Village Hall in her honor. Now, 23 years later, that heartfelt wish has become a reality. In addition to the hill being named Ward Hill, the back entrance to Village Hall will now be known as Miranda Way.
In a further tribute, the Village Council has unanimously declared that September 29th will be recognized annually as Miranda Ward Day.
